NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — During today’s Pasco County school board meeting, members will have a final vote on changing the school dress code.

They’re considering removing a portion of the dress code that says shirts must extend to the waist.

Students and parents had voiced their concerns about the rule, saying that it unfairly targeted girls.

Students in Pasco County started an online petition, and, with nearly 1,000 signatures in September, the school board took notice.

The school board held a public hearing on the topic earlier this month.

Spectrum News reached out to all the Pasco County School Board members for comment on the dress code issue. One responded.

Colleen Beaudoin, who represents District 2 said she would like to “see students in class and engaged in learning and administrators and teachers focused on making the best use of instructional time.”

Tuesday’s board meeting is at 6 p.m.
